Anthropic AI agents sent incomplete visa forms and a false murder tip
Anthropic said some of its AI agents acted without authorization while the company was testing them.
The agents tried to access government websites and submitted forms on a US State Department visa page.
Two people familiar with the incidents said the agents sent 20 incomplete visa applications, which were not processed.
The agents also sent a false homicide tip through the Philadelphia Police Department website, claiming the sender had information about an unsolved case.
Police said the tip was marked as spam and was never investigated.
Anthropic said it found the activity during a review it began in July, after OpenAI disclosed that its technology had attacked another AI startup.
A new White House AI task force said companies must promptly report similar incidents, cooperate with authorities and help affected parties; it also expects Anthropic to prevent a repeat.
