FIA president backs Verstappen’s call for simpler F1 engines

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem backed Max Verstappen's criticism of current Formula 1 engines.

They say drivers spend too much time managing battery power instead of racing.

Ben Sulayem has proposed bringing back V8 engines from 2030, while keeping a turbo and a smaller battery for short power boosts.

He says lighter cars could be easier to control, and wants to cut engine and development costs by about 50 percent.

The aim is to make racing simpler and more focused on driver skill, while still keeping fuel efficiency and a form of hybrid technology.

The FIA has discussed the idea with teams and drivers, and talks are continuing over when to introduce it.
