Bomb alert evacuates boarding students and nearby residents in Lavaur

A suspected bomb at Las Cases high school prompted an overnight search in Lavaur, a town in France’s Tarn department.

The alert followed a suspicious report on the evening of 14 October, when classes had ended but students were still staying at the school’s boarding house.

Boarding students and residents of three nearby streets were evacuated as a precaution.

Police, municipal officers and a specially brought-in sniffer dog searched the school, while the town opened a room for those who had left their homes.

The search ended around 2:30 a.m.

without an apparent bomb being found.

The school was still closed on the morning of 15 October, although evacuation measures and traffic restrictions had been lifted.

The alert disrupted students and nearby residents, but the reported search found no explosive device.
