Godzilla Minus Zero Sets Japan Live-Action Opening-Day Record

Godzilla Minus Zero opened in Japan on Tuesday and earned 910 million yen on its first day.

Toho said that was a record for a live-action film opening day in Japan.

The result was more than double the first-day earnings of its 2023 predecessor, Godzilla Minus One.

Director Takashi Yamazaki returns to write and direct the sequel, which takes place in Japan two years after the previous film's events.

The strong start points to a potentially successful opening weekend, though box-office forecasts are estimates.

The film reaches North American cinemas on November 6, with releases also planned across parts of Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

Its performance will show whether it can build on its record-breaking start as it opens in more markets.
