South Korea promotes regional snack festivals to Taiwanese tourists
South Korea’s tourism agency is using local snack festivals to attract visitors to cities outside the country’s main tourist areas.
The agency chose Taiwan because Taiwanese visitors are a large share of arrivals through Daegu and Gimhae airports, and interest in Korean food and food trips is high there.
A package tour has brought 145 Taiwanese tourists to South Korea, working with travel agencies in Taiwan.
On October 23 and 24, they are due to visit Daegu’s tteokbokki festival and Gimcheon’s gimbap festival.
The agency plans to promote the festivals overseas, including by inviting social media influencers to the Gumi ramen festival next month.
It says the effort links regional festivals with travel through local airports, and it plans to keep developing local attractions to bring more foreign visitors to the regions.
