Sustainable vegetable oil conference held in Shanghai

Sustainable vegetable oil conference held in Shanghai

The fourth Sustainable Vegetable Oil Conference took place in Shanghai on October 27, marking the event’s first time in China.

It was organized by the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries, with Indonesia’s and Malaysia’s embassies in China as co-hosts.

About 220 delegates from 11 countries attended, including government officials, industry representatives and experts on palm, soybean, rapeseed and sunflower oils.

Participants discussed how to improve productivity through technology and innovation, and Indonesia’s economic coordinating minister said smallholder output should rise without expanding planted areas.

Speakers called for sustainability standards that support market access and for systems that can trace and verify sustainability claims.

They also discussed how changing rules and market demands affect producers and buyers, with cooperation and reliable market information highlighted as ways to build resilient supply chains.

The conference focused on issues facing producers and consumers, but no follow-up decision or next meeting was announced.
