Saudi Arabia says it intercepted two Houthi missiles

The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted two missiles fired toward Taif and Yanbu, two cities in Saudi Arabia.

Civil Defense warned people in Taif, Yanbu, Mecca and Jeddah to take shelter, then said about 10 minutes later that the danger had passed.

The missiles were launched by the Houthis, a group that controls Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and is fighting the coalition, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

The renewed fighting has ended a UN-brokered truce that largely stopped cross-border attacks in 2022.

The interceptions came amid a wider rise in attacks, though Saudi authorities have not confirmed some recent Houthi claims about strikes in Riyadh and Yanbu.

Saudi authorities urged residents to keep following safety guidance and avoid crowds or filming incidents.
