82 Korean volunteers support community projects in 20 countries

A Korean volunteer program run by the Korea International Cooperation Agency and development NGOs has sent 82 volunteers to 20 countries this year.

They are working at 43 project sites in areas including agriculture, health care, education and public administration.

The program began in 2004 and relies on local NGOs’ networks and experience to work alongside communities.

In Mongolia, a volunteer supports corn breeding and crop management, while in Rwanda another provides physical therapy and training for local medical staff.

Other volunteers support disability education in Kyrgyzstan and community campaigns in Guatemala, showing how assignments respond to local needs.

The work aims to strengthen local skills and self-reliance, rather than provide only short-term help.

The volunteers arrived in February, and their assignments are due to continue until February 2027.
