Cem Özdemir to move into Stuttgart official residence for security reasons
Baden-Württemberg Premier Cem Özdemir plans to move with his family from their rented home in central Stuttgart to the official residence at Schloss Solitude.
He says the move is mainly for security reasons, because making his current apartment safe to protect would require major work on its windows and doors.
The residence is about eight kilometres west of Stuttgart’s centre, on the grounds of Schloss Solitude.
Özdemir said investing in a building owned by the state makes more sense than upgrading a rented home he would eventually leave.
He will pay rent for the part of the villa used privately, with the amount calculated by area; he did not yet know the details.
The villa was built in 1968 and has previously housed several state premiers, while his predecessor Winfried Kretschmann chose not to live there.
The move is planned for next year, and the residence is currently being modernised.
