USB union calls national protest in Rome for December 12

Italy’s USB union announced a national protest in Rome for December 12.

The call came after a general strike on October 30, which was accompanied by demonstrations across Italy.

Students, farmers, port workers and research workers took part in the wider mobilisation.

The protesters oppose rising living costs and rearmament.

A USB representative said the union wants Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to resign, accusing her government of ignoring part of the country and acting against the Constitution.

Organisers want public pressure to shape the political response, and say they will consider political signals if parties make an effort to reconnect with society.

The announced next step is the Rome demonstration in December.
