Milkor pitches surveillance drone for South Africa’s borders
South African company Milkor is pitching its 380 drone to help monitor the country’s borders.
The aircraft was displayed at an aerospace and defence exhibition in Pretoria and is designed for surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.
It can fly for more than 30 hours and travel up to 4,000km, according to the company’s specifications.
South Africa faces irregular migration and cross-border crime, and its Border Management Authority uses aerial surveillance as part of its work.
Milkor has not confirmed a deal with the South African military, and talks with the government are described as being at a sensitive stage.
The drone has also operated in the Middle East, and Milkor says it has received positive feedback from users there.
The company says foreign interest and orders are growing, while discussions continue about possible use in South Africa and new equipment integrations.
