Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr runs after shows and completed a solo Ironman 70.3
Royal Blood bassist Mike Kerr runs after live shows to use the adrenaline from performing, often with the band’s keyboard player, Darren James.
Kerr says he got sober in 2019 and found that running helped him stay on track during that period.
He began running without a formal plan and has tried to keep it sustainable rather than let it become another addiction.
During lockdown, he ran a marathon on his own along the coast from Brighton to Ferring and back.
In March 2021, he and two crew members took on a challenge of running four miles every four hours for 48 hours, which Kerr described as an exercise in discipline.
He later trained for an Ironman 70.3 at Jones Beach, near New York, despite having little experience swimming or cycling.
A storm cancelled the event, so Kerr completed the swim in a pool, cycled in Central Park and ran beside the Hudson River instead.

What people are saying
I love to run straight after a show.
I got sober in 2019, which opened up access to time and energy that I hadn’t had for many years.
I’ve tried to approach it in a sustainable way, and it’s stayed with me.
I had no experience on a bike and could hardly swim to the other end of a pool.
