AI-generated sexual images of students prompt concern in Argentina

Families and students protested outside Colegio Modelo Lomas in Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, after at least four third-year students were accused of creating, sharing and selling fake pornographic images of female classmates with AI.

The images were reportedly made using real photos of about 40 students and circulated on online platforms and pornography sites.

Parents said the school had known about the situation for weeks without telling them.

US health institutes have warned that AI can be used to make sexualized images of minors; early estimates found 2.5% of US teenagers had created or commissioned such images, while 7.1% had received them.

Digital risks also include online spaces where sexual violence involving minors is described or depicted, according to the head of Argentina's Red por la Infancia.

The group offers BajaloYa!, a free, anonymous tool for requesting the removal of intimate images of minors from digital platforms.

It creates a unique digital fingerprint on the user's device without sending or exposing the image, so a minor can start the process without first relying on an adult.
