Gunsan man investigated for unreported long-distance boating

A man in his 40s is being investigated by the Gunsan Coast Guard in South Korea for boating without giving required notice.

He left Sinchi Port in Gunsan with two companions in a 90-horsepower inflatable boat.

They were found at sea near Twelve Dongpa-do, about 28 km from the port.

South Korean rules require boaters to notify the coast guard or another relevant office when they travel more than 10 nautical miles, or about 18.5 km, from their departure port.

The man was caught on the morning of October 10.

Breaking the rule can bring a fine of 200,000 won.

The coast guard says the notice helps it respond quickly to accidents, and it is investigating the man.
