Man in photo near David Rossi's death scene identified as Luca Anselmi

A photograph shown on Italian TV depicted a man using a phone near the place in Siena where David Rossi was found dead in 2013.

The man was linked on the programme to former Monte dei Paschi chairman Giuseppe Mussari, prompting a dispute over the image.

Mussari’s lawyers say the man is not him and deny that the two look alike.

Lawyer Lorenzo De Martino identified the person in the photo as Siena professional Luca Anselmi, who, he said, went to the scene after hearing about the tragedy.

The parliamentary inquiry into Rossi’s death says it will pass the photographs to prosecutors and Carabinieri so they can identify the man.

Mussari has filed complaints with prosecutors in Rome and Florence, including one accusing TV host Massimo Giletti of aggravated defamation.

Giletti denies disclosing secret documents and says the accusations will be answered in court.
