Zero DS rider sets electric motorcycle range record at 436.5 km

Belgian rider Jelle Verstaen rode 436.5 km on one charge of a Zero DS electric motorcycle.

He set a new Guinness World Records distance mark, beating the previous record of 310.7 km by 125.8 km.

The DS was a production model with an optional battery pack, giving it a total capacity of 19.2 kWh.

Verstaen rode from the French Alps toward the Mediterranean, aiming to keep a steady pace of about 52 km/h to save energy.

The route and careful riding helped stretch the battery, so the result should not be taken as a typical everyday range.

Two other riders on Zero motorcycles also passed the previous record, covering 350 km and 384 km.
