Saudi fish farming output reaches 200,000 tonnes a year

Saudi Arabia’s fish farming output has reached 200,000 tonnes a year, a rise of 20%, according to the environment ministry’s data.

The growth is linked to projects in the Red Sea and along the country’s coasts.

The figures were highlighted at the Saudi Agricultural Exhibition 2026, opened by Environment Minister Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli.

Agriculture contributes 3% of Saudi Arabia’s economy and is growing by as much as 5% a year.

The country also produces more than 80% of its poultry needs and more than its needs for dates, milk and eggs.

The growth supports plans to reduce reliance on food imports and strengthen food security.

The exhibition featured agreements and partnerships, while the ministry said its focus includes more efficient production, sustainable resources and investment under the National Agriculture Strategy 2030.
