Russian strike kills woman and damages Kyiv buildings and metro station

A Russian strike hit Kyiv overnight on October 19, damaging buildings in several districts.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a 21-year-old woman was killed and three people were injured; Ukraine’s emergency service reported eight injured.

The strike also damaged a metro station on the left bank of the Dnipro and a 25-storey residential building.

A Ukrainian journalist said Kyiv received no advance warning of the ballistic missile attack.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he did not know exactly what happened and referred to an earlier software problem with the warning system.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the US had resumed sharing intelligence to help Ukraine detect Russian missile attacks, which can give warning of fast-moving missiles.
