LG earns top safety rating for vehicle communication module
LG Electronics has earned the top ASIL D safety rating for a vehicle communication module, the company said.
The certification came from TÜV Rheinland and is based on the international automotive safety standard ISO 26262.
The module moves data between a vehicle’s control units and outside networks, including signals linked to driving safety.
ASIL D means the system is designed to limit failures that could cause an accident to no more than one in 100 million hours of continuous use.
The module is installed in Genesis’s GV90 electric SUV, making it a top-rated safety component in a production vehicle.
LG says it plans to use the certification to expand its vehicle electronics business with global automakers.
