Mexico’s CFE reports 23.3 billion peso loss in third quarter
Mexico’s state electricity company CFE reported a 23.3 billion peso loss for the third quarter of 2026.
A year earlier, it recorded a profit of about 56.4 billion pesos for the same period.
CFE linked much of the loss to weaker foreign-exchange gains on obligations held in other currencies, an accounting effect it said did not mean an equivalent cash outflow.
Higher labor-related costs and financial expenses also weighed on results.
Sales revenue was about 1% lower, partly because of reduced income from fuel sales and lower industrial and commercial electricity tariffs, although the volume of electricity sold rose 3.4%.
CFE’s total debt reached about 501.3 billion pesos at the end of September, while debt owed to suppliers and contractors also increased.
The company said its operating performance and liquidity would support its obligations, planned investment and reliable power supply; it has outlined investment under its 2026–2030 development program.
Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported a net loss of 23.31 billion pesos for the third quarter of 2026.
The utility had reported net income of about 56.42 billion pesos in the same quarter of 2025.
CFE attributed the year-on-year difference mainly to lower foreign-exchange gains from valuing obligations denominated in foreign currencies.
The company said that accounting effect did not represent an equivalent cash outflow.
Its total debt stood at about 501.3 billion pesos at the end of September, according to the reports.

The difference compared with the same period of 2025 is explained mainly by lower foreign-exchange gains associated with the valuation of obligations denominated in foreign currencies. This effect is accounting in nature and does not represent an equivalent cash outflow.
The operating generation, reduction in financial expenses and strengthening of liquidity support its capacity to meet its obligations, sustain the productive investment planned in its 2026–2030 Development Program and guarantee a reliable electricity supply.
