British man to face charges over hidden camera on Japan-Singapore flight

A 52-year-old British man is due to face charges in Singapore on Thursday over an incident on a flight from Japan.

Police say he allegedly hid a camera in an aircraft toilet and activated its recording function remotely using a phone app.

A cabin crew member found the camera and alerted a colleague.

The man allegedly tried to retrieve it, then deleted the app and related photos from his phone to avoid detection.

He was detained when the flight landed at Changi Airport, and police seized his phone and the camera.

He faces one charge of voyeurism and one of obstructing justice; the stated maximum penalties are two years in jail for voyeurism and seven years for obstruction, with other penalties also possible.

The charges are due to be brought on Thursday, November 5.
