Türkiye discusses electricity link with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria

Türkiye says it is in talks with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria about a large electricity transmission link connecting the four countries.

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced the discussions at an energy congress in Riyadh.

No cost, capacity or timeline for the project was given.

Türkiye says it wants to use its existing energy infrastructure more fully and diversify its energy supplies.

Bayraktar also said Türkiye is considering using spare capacity in the TANAP gas pipeline to carry more gas to Türkiye and on to Europe.

The proposals come as global energy markets face pressure, and Bayraktar said Türkiye has not had problems securing oil and oil products.

The electricity link remains under discussion, with no further steps or schedule announced.
