Sister seeks renewed search for missing hiker on Italy’s Gran Sasso
Karol Brozek has been missing on Italy’s Gran Sasso since November 2025 after setting out from Campo Imperatore with two dogs.
A red leash found in the Vallone dell’Inferno may belong to Kraken, one of the dogs, but the family’s identification has not been verified.
The leash does not explain what happened to Brozek, and a volunteer search group found no trace of him in the difficult, debris-covered gorge.
His sister, Diana, has formally asked the prefectures of L’Aquila and Teramo to restart the search and is awaiting their response.
She wants the gorge inspected before winter snow makes searches harder, using specialist dogs and metal detectors if possible.
One of Brozek’s dogs, Pirat, was found alive in December 2025; Kraken’s whereabouts are not established.
