Attack on Titan 3 Retells the Series With a New Player Character
Attack on Titan 3 retells the series’ story from beginning to end rather than continuing directly from the previous game.
The game’s story follows the anime’s overall storyline, but players take the role of an original character instead of simply replaying it as an existing character.
After their squad is wiped out on a first mission, the character is left traumatized and afraid to fight Titans.
Their skill with ODM gear, equipment used to move and fight, keeps them involved as an engineer and trainer.
The character becomes a mentor to Eren and other cadets, while recovering from trauma and growing alongside them.
The preview also highlights quieter moments between battles and combat features aimed at experienced players, but no release timing is given.

What people are saying
The reason that we had that kind of story in the beginning is we needed to establish that the Titans are the humans’ enemy.
So we were like, ‘Okay, one series is coming to an end, so why don't we just cover the story from beginning to the end and just kind of follow that storyline?’
