Volkswagen looks to new Atlas model to revive its US business

Volkswagen is counting on the US market to help offset losses in other regions.

The new Atlas range has started production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the company says its factory is central to its North American strategy.

But Volkswagen delivered nearly 8% fewer vehicles in the US in the first nine months of the year than in the same period a year earlier.

Deliveries in China fell 30%, adding to pressure on the company as it restructures in Germany and faces US tariffs.

Marco Schubert took charge of Volkswagen's North American business on October 1, becoming its third leader in two years.

The company is seeking a turnaround in the US, but the account does not say whether its new model and leadership will reverse the decline.
