FC Magdeburg fan died in hospital after collapsing during the club’s home match against Karlsruher SC in Magdeburg.

The incident happened on the north stand at the Avnet Arena during last Saturday’s game.

Supporters gave first aid before emergency crews arrived, and the fan was resuscitated at the stadium.

The club said the fan’s life could not be saved despite medical efforts.

The match was a 6-1 win over Karlsruhe, according to one account, but the death has overshadowed the game.

Magdeburg expressed condolences to the fan’s family and friends and said the club community was standing together.

The club also thanked the supporters who responded, and no further steps were announced.
