Swiss will require a Travel ID for online check-in

From 16 November, Swiss passengers departing Zurich will need a Travel ID to check in online.

The change also applies to Edelweiss and is part of a rule set by their parent company, Lufthansa.

The free account requires a name, birth date, email address and password; storing travel documents and payment details is optional.

Lufthansa plans to extend the rule to all its departure regions by the end of November.

Passengers who do not want an account can still check in at an airport counter or kiosk.

Some group, tour operator, charter and other-airline bookings are exempt, and one Travel ID can check in everyone on a booking.
