Curitiba closes Praça Osório after another falling branch
A falling branch lightly injured a 24-year-old man in Praça Osório, in central Curitiba, on Friday.
The city then closed the square to pedestrians as a safety measure.
The closure comes amid forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds, after other trees fell in the area during earlier storms.
Five city arborist teams will inspect each tree, prune those that can be made safer and remove trees judged at immediate risk of falling.
The square will stay closed until tree work and renovation are finished.
The renovation is being brought forward and includes new paving, an inclusive playground, an outdoor gym and a sports court.
Buses and traffic around the square remain unaffected, while seasonal fairs will move to other locations in the city centre.
