Indonesia Sets Aside Rp600 Billion for Corn Seeds for Poultry Farmers

Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman, has set aside Rp600 billion for corn seeds for poultry farmers through 2027.

The funding is split evenly between this year and 2027, and the seeds will be distributed free through farmer groups working with poultry farmers in cooperatives.

The program aims to connect corn growers with poultry farms and secure corn supplies for animal feed.

The government targets 2.1 million tonnes of corn from 300,000 hectares, above the estimated annual need of 1.8 million tonnes for poultry farmers.

If harvests exceed that need, state company Bulog will buy the surplus.

The government is also preparing 100 tractors, 100 water pumps and access to its crop-drying machines to support the program.

The need is 1.8 million tonnes a year. For 1.8 million tonnes, we plant more corn, across 300,000 hectares. At 7 tonnes per hectare, that is 2.1 million tonnes of production.

If poultry farms have enough and there is surplus corn, it must not go to other parties in this area of 300,000 hectares. If there is a surplus, Bulog becomes the off-taker.
