CRPF records first year without operational fatalities in 47 years

India’s Central Reserve Police Force went 12 months without an operational fatality, the first time in 47 years.

The force operates in high-risk areas including Jammu and Kashmir, parts of India affected by left-wing extremism, and Manipur.

Its last operational death was reported on October 30, 2025.

CRPF officials credit better training, planning, protective gear and faster medical evacuation for the milestone.

Since 1947, 2,268 CRPF personnel have died in operations, averaging more than 28 a year.

Officials say many deaths occur days after an injury, so timely treatment can help prevent fatalities.

The force has recorded zero fatal casualties six times, though the previous time was a 24-month period from February 1977 to January 1979.
