England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka begin World Cup warm-up tri-series

England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are playing a one-day international tri-series in Pakistan as they prepare for next year’s 50-over World Cup.

The tournament starts in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan meet Sri Lanka on Sunday, and later moves to Lahore.

Each team plays the others twice, and the top two qualify for the October 31 final.

England enter after winning three ODI series in a row, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka are also looking to build form.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi called the series important preparation for the World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

England face Pakistan on Tuesday, and the final standings will decide which two teams meet in Lahore.
