Argentinos and Independiente Rivadavia face key league clash

Argentinos Juniors host Independiente Rivadavia at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in a match with major league stakes.

The teams meet 356 days after Independiente Rivadavia beat Argentinos on penalties to win the Copa Argentina final.

A win would strengthen a team’s place in the race for the annual table, while the loser could be nearly out of contention.

Argentinos can secure a Clausura playoff place with victory, while Independiente Rivadavia are currently outside the top eight.

The result could also affect qualification for next year’s Copa Libertadores, depending partly on places opened by future champions.

Argentinos have not lost at home in the Clausura, while Independiente Rivadavia have won only once away; the Mendoza team beat Argentinos 3-1 in the Apertura.

Both teams have two league matches left after this one to pursue their goals.
