Selangor explores agricultural cooperation with Banyuwangi
Officials from Selangor, Malaysia, visited Banyuwangi in Indonesia to learn about its farming methods and explore possible cooperation.
Banyuwangi has developed biofortified rice using low-emission farming, which aims to produce nutritious rice with a smaller environmental impact.
Selangor’s agriculture representative said Banyuwangi can grow rice three to four times a year, a method Selangor wants to study for its own rice fields.
Selangor has about 18,000 hectares of rice fields, and its delegation is examining land management, fertilisers, seeds and farming practices.
The rice programme is supported by Pandawa Agri Indonesia and includes guidance for farmers across ten stages of cultivation.
The visit is an exploration, not a confirmed agreement, and officials also discussed possible cooperation in tourism, ecotourism, livestock and trade.
The two sides said they hope to exchange knowledge, but no next steps were announced.

We came to Banyuwangi to see the agricultural sector, especially the development and management of rice fields here. We were informed that rice can be planted up to three or four times a year in Banyuwangi. This is very interesting for us to study.
Let us learn from each other about what agricultural technology we might be able to apply in each of our countries.
