Ivyan tanker towed clear, reopening Istanbul Strait traffic

Ivyan tanker towed clear, reopening Istanbul Strait traffic

The chemical tanker Ivyan developed an engine problem near Kanlıca while passing through the Istanbul Strait.

It was sailing from Bulgaria to Italy and was carrying 6,000 tonnes of vegetable oil.

The ship dropped anchor after the fault, and authorities sent rescue boats and tugboats to assist.

Shipping through the strait was temporarily suspended in both directions.

The tanker was then towed to the Küçükçekmece anchorage under the coordination of the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center.

Traffic resumed after the ship was moved to safety.
