Mexico recorded 1,215 murder victims in October, 10.4% more than in September, according to preliminary government figures.

The State of Mexico had the most cases, with 160 victims, followed by Sinaloa with 155.

Sinaloa recorded its deadliest month of the year so far, amid a fight for control of the Sinaloa Cartel between “Los Chapitos” and “La Mayiza.”

Federal security forces, the Navy and the military were deployed to try to contain the conflict, but killings continued.

The preliminary daily figures show an average of 39 murder victims a day nationwide, and are estimated to be 15% to 20% below figures later published by Mexico’s national security system.

Sinaloa recorded 1,549 homicides in the first ten months of the year, with August and September each reporting 179 victims.
