Republican super PAC funded group attacking Sherrod Brown in Ohio

A Republican super PAC gave $2.5 million to Enough Promises Ohio, according to a campaign finance filing covering October 1-14.

The group has spent at least $2 million on ads and mailers that criticize Democrat Sherrod Brown and urge voters to support independent candidate Greg Levy.

The messaging seeks to weaken Brown’s support among Black voters, including with a mailer accusing him of helping build a system that locks people up.

Brown is challenging Republican Senator Jon Husted in one of the country’s most competitive Senate races.

Levy and Husted’s campaign say they have no ties to the group, while Brown’s campaign accused Husted of being accountable for its efforts.

Federal law bars super PACs from coordinating with campaigns, and the funding disclosure came before the pre-election filing deadline.

Another group has spent money against Husted and in support of Libertarian candidate Bill Redpath, but has not disclosed its donors.
