PCO leader calls court action against Flávio Bolsonaro political persecution
Rui Costa Pimenta, leader of Brazil’s PCO, called the passport order political persecution against senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
Brazil’s Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered Bolsonaro to hand over his passports within 24 hours.
Bolsonaro did not comply and left Brazil for the United States after losing the presidential election, according to the reports.
Pimenta said the action was driven by Bolsonaro’s political support and influence, while also accusing the Supreme Court of exercising a dictatorship.
The order is linked to an investigation involving lawyer Willer Tomaz; Bolsonaro is also under investigation in a separate case over financing for a film about his father.
Bolsonaro has not been convicted in either case.
The disputes matter because they involve the limits of judicial power and the treatment of a major political figure.
The reports say no response from the Supreme Court had been received by one outlet when it published.
