Shashi Tharoor praises Dhurandhar films but criticises violence and political message
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has reviewed both Dhurandhar films, which star Ranveer Singh and were directed by Aditya Dhar.
The spy-thriller story follows an undercover intelligence operative and includes secret missions.
Tharoor said he enjoyed the second instalment more, praising the storytelling, performances and filmmaking.
He called the films’ graphic violence excessive and said many scenes did not need to be so gruesome.
Tharoor also acknowledged political messaging and said he understood concerns that the films could deepen ill feeling between Indians and Pakistanis.
Reports cited by Tharoor said the films had been banned in Pakistan and some Gulf countries over those concerns.
He said his own experience with intelligence officials involved discussions and information-sharing, rather than the covert operations shown on screen.
