Three men face extortion charges over threats to two Mexico City businesses

Mexico City prosecutors brought extortion cases against three men over threats to two local businesses.

The victims were the owners of a music school in Polanco and a cafe in Axotla.

The callers claimed to represent La Unión Tepito, a criminal group, and demanded payments from the owners.

The music school owner paid 80,000 pesos after threats that the school and its students would be attacked; the cafe owner transferred 3,300 pesos after being threatened.

Investigators traced money from both businesses to accounts linked to the accused, including an account in Noé “N”’s name.

A judge ordered the three men to face trial proceedings on qualified extortion charges; the cases are based on evidence gathered by prosecutors and investigators.
