45,461 New Cars in Mexico Went Without Financing From January to September

45,461 new cars in Mexico went without financing from January through September 2026, according to an industry report.

The loans those purchases would have involved were worth 22.8 billion pesos.

SUVs accounted for the largest share of the unfunded vehicles, followed by subcompact cars and pickup trucks.

The report says credit covered 75.6% of retail new-car purchases, excluding fleet sales, but the share was 62% when fleets were included.

Compared with the same period a year earlier, financing shares rose for SUVs, subcompacts, pickups and sports cars, but fell for compact and luxury cars.

The report says banks, dealer partnerships and car-brand finance companies could pursue this opportunity to make more loans by focusing on segments with stronger performance or adjusting their loan products.

this amount of vehicles that went without financing represents a very attractive portfolio for banks, alliances and brand finance companies, so they should focus more on markets or segments with good performance or adjust their mix of financial products to capitalize on this sales opportunity
