Jalen Hurts to miss Eagles game after blood clot moves

The Philadelphia Eagles ruled out quarterback Jalen Hurts for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers after a scan found movement in a blood clot in his calf.

Hurts said he was injured when he was struck in the calf during the Eagles' October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

An ultrasound in London first found a superficial clot, but doctors said he could safely play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Philadelphia lost that game 19-17.

After the Eagles returned home, a follow-up scan on Wednesday showed that the clot had moved.

The team has not given a timetable for his return and says it will decide on treatment.

Tanner McKee is expected to start against Carolina; it will be his first meaningful NFL start.

A superficial clot forms in veins close to the skin, but Hurts's case needs medical follow-up, and the Eagles will have to play without their star quarterback for now.
