Spanish intelligence says Morocco knew of planned mass entry into Ceuta
Spain’s CNI says Moroccan authorities knew a mass entry into Ceuta was being planned before it happened.
The entry took place on July 30 and 31, when more than 70,000 people reached the Spanish city from Morocco, and at least 140 drowned.
The plans were widely discussed on social media and were set to coincide with Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations.
The CNI says it sent an urgent warning to Moroccan intelligence services the day before, and also alerted Spanish officials.
It says Morocco’s response was too limited and passive as the number of people trying to enter grew.
The CNI does not say Morocco organized or encouraged the entry; it says authorities knew about the risk but failed to stop it.
A Spanish judge is investigating the mass entry, and the CNI report was submitted as part of that inquiry.
