Expo AgriTech calls for faster technology upgrades in Spanish farming

Expo AgriTech 2026 ended in Málaga with a call to speed up the use of technology in farming.

The event drew 8,207 professionals and farmers from across Spain.

Spain’s agriculture minister, Luis Planas, said public authorities and businesses both have an important role in modernising the sector.

He pointed to feeding a growing population, climate change and export profitability as major challenges for farmers.

Speakers also discussed how to manage scarcer water and land as demand from different sectors grows.

They said better planning, infrastructure and technology can help make water use more productive.

Discussions on olive farming stressed protecting soil and biodiversity so farms can remain viable for future generations.
