Gazprombank CEO says Russian banks can fund further development

Gazprombank CEO Andrey Akimov told Vladimir Putin that Russia’s banking system is stable.

He made the remarks at a meeting with the Russian president in Moscow.

Akimov said the system has reserves to support economic development, and credited the work of the Central Bank and government.

Gazprombank’s profit was 130 billion rubles, or $1.6 billion, at the end of last year.

Akimov said banks are ready to finance large-scale investment across the country.

He added that banks could support further development if monetary policy is softened, but gave no details of any policy changes.

We look rather confidently to the future and are confident that banks can finance further development with an appropriate softening of the monetary policy. Reserves are in place.
