Retired judge and wife found murdered in Istanbul's Bebek district in 1970
Neighbours found a couple dead in their Istanbul home on 3 February 1970, after they had not been seen for two days.
The victims were retired judge Mahmut Nedim and his wife Melahat, who worked for an animal-protection association and lived in the Bebek district.
Police said both had been repeatedly struck on the head; the home showed no signs of forced entry, and a kettle of tea was inside.
Investigators also noted that the couple's large dog, known to react aggressively to strangers, had not barked, leading them to consider whether the attackers were familiar to it.
Police inquiries turned to the couple's son Uğur, who had been estranged from his father for about eight months after arguments over gambling and money.
Uğur was arrested in Ankara and denied involvement; detectives continued their investigation, and the account gives no further outcome.
