Vitaliano Borromeo Arese dies at 66 after developing Lake Maggiore tourism

Vitaliano Borromeo Arese has died aged 66, Kaleon, the company he chaired, announced.

He led the development of Terre Borromeo’s historic and natural sites around Lake Maggiore for about 15 years.

The Borromeo family has long owned properties in the area, but Arese brought a business-focused approach to managing them.

Before turning to tourism, he worked in the steel industry, led steel company Sogepar and worked in property and design.

Under his leadership, the attractions grew to include sites such as the Borromean Islands, Villa Pallavicino park and the restored Castles of Cannero.

The sites drew close to one million visitors a year, and Kaleon was listed in Milan and Paris in December 2025.

His private funeral will be held in Milan on Tuesday, according to the reports.
