Melania Trump announces $7.2 million LSU scholarship endowment for foster-care students

Melania Trump announced a $7.2 million scholarship endowment at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The money is intended to support LSU students who have experienced foster care through her Fostering the Future program.

The endowment includes a $5 million commitment from Baton Rouge company MMR Group and $2.2 million raised from LSU Foundation donors.

The fund is expected to help cover tuition, fees, books and housing, with the university saying the $5 million gift could generate about $200,000 each year.

Trump said the scholarships could give young people from foster care greater stability and a stronger start in education.

The announcement also received recognition at LSU's football game against Alabama, where players wore patches linked to the initiative.

The sources do not describe a further step or timetable for the scholarships.
