Erzurum opens 375 million-lira centre to manage roads and winter conditions

Turkey opened a 375 million-lira transport centre in Erzurum to manage roads and traffic.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu opened the centre, which will use cameras and other smart systems to monitor roads and intersections.

It will initially monitor four tunnels, with plans to bring 13 tunnels under its oversight later.

Staff will use camera feeds, including from snow and ice-clearing vehicles, to manage winter road operations around the clock.

The aim is to improve road safety and keep routes open during snow and ice.

Uraloğlu urged drivers to fit winter tyres as snow began covering Mount Palandöken.

This is a process that needs to be monitored 24/7. Therefore, we will manage it more professionally from this centre.
