Saudi carbon market tracks more than 30 project developers
Saudi Arabia’s Voluntary Carbon Market Co.
is tracking more than 30 project developers in the country and abroad.
The company says it has traded more than 15 million carbon credits over three years, directing about SR350 million toward climate projects worldwide.
Carbon credits are used to support projects that reduce or remove emissions, including methane capture, waste treatment and nature-based solutions.
In 2024, the platform facilitated trades of more than 2.5 million credits at SR37.5 per tonne.
Demand for credits in Saudi Arabia currently exceeds supply, so the market needs more projects and a wider range of credits.
The market is intended to help finance climate projects and support Saudi Arabia’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.
Its growth will depend on expanding supply, maintaining credit quality and sustaining demand from companies managing their emissions.
