Mexico begins national teacher consultation on replacing Usicamm
Mexico’s education ministry began a nationwide consultation with teachers on October 30 about replacing Usicamm, the system that governs teacher careers.
Teachers are taking part in schools across the country, with university observers and technology experts helping oversee the process.
Usicamm sets rules for hiring, promotions and job assignments in Mexico’s public education system.
It replaced an earlier system, but teachers have also criticized Usicamm and called for a different approach.
The government says the consultation will help shape a new system and address teachers’ concerns about transparency and labor rights.
The results are due November 5, and the executive plans to present a reform in November.
